Hi everyone.
I am sure for those of you who are of a larger dress size like me, e.g UK 12 / US 8 and above, you would sometimes fret about styles of dresses to wear. Well I certainly do and am slowly beginning to realise which styles suit me better than others.
Besides the recent Skater or Fit & Flare style which I love so much, here's another style to add to your list of " must try" dress styles - the OPTICAL ILLUSION DRESS. Widely popular during SS 2012, this trend is certainly being carried forward in a variety of ways into A/W 2012 and also into SS 2013.

Dress : My own closet - old ( similar here & here)
Bangle : Forever 21
Watch : BCBG Plisse
Necklace : thanks Rebecca
Shoes : New Look
I paired my dress with my very own Foster Bay Waterfall Drape Jacket to further accentuate the color block contrast for that further illusion enhancement of a slimmer hourglass figure. Also as dinner was in a pretty cold air-conditioned restaurant hence the need for a jacket. This look could easily take you to the office and you can swop the flats for heels, wear your hair down, take off the jacket and match the outfit with a clutch for after work drinks and dinner. A great outfit for 2 occasions.
Here are some further tips and styles of the optical illusion dress which you may wish to explore with.
1) For Plus Size Ladies ( UK 14 & above)
Remember to watch out for the fabric of the outfit. Go for fabrics that are slightly heavier so that it skims the silhouette and creates the hourglass effect as its meant to be instead of hugging you at the wrong places e.g hips, bulging tummy etc...

The Ponte Roma fabric dress ends knee length for that pencil skirt slimming effect & the
V-neck helps to create the illusion of a longer neckline and drawing the eyes vertically for
that illusion of a slim, tall silhouette.

It's the weekend again everyone! I was waiting anxiously to get some downtime to blog again but it was a crazy mad week. With Connor being taken ill with a high fever and my busy work schedule catching up tending to Connor for a couple of days, hence been so swarmed and before you know it - there you go.... the weekend comes around again and another week has passed!
Can't believe we are already hitting the end of October for 2012! My god, where did time fly to? This past week, we have been really excited reviewing samples of our Foster Bay manufactured label items for our Xmas and New Year collection which had just arrived. We had also just completed our "Autumn Rhapsody II" collection's photoshoot launching soon on 1 November 2012 with a new and lovely face - Sarah H. as our model this time around. Seeing ourselves evolving slowly to the next level in such a short spate of time has been such a ride. A few tweaks still required with suppliers and honestly we can't wait for it to be launched.
Meanwhile since I have been running around so much for the new collection as well as for arranging stuff in view of my impending long break to UK and USA in Dec'12 - Jan'13 so I have been just throwing on jeans/shorts with basic tee almost all week long. Although many bloggers out there have covered this post on " How To Style Your Basic Tee" but I thought I would like to give my take on it as well.
V Neck T-Shirt : My own, Old
Tweed Jacket : Amber Avenue
Paisley Print Skirt : H&M
Necklace : My own, old.
Shoes : Zalora
Here are a few LOOKS you can achieve with just your basic tee.

Happy weekend everyone! Just watched the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony and boy must it be said, it was choreographed fantastically and what an amazing show! My husband is seriously going on the whole morning " Only the British can do it this well!" ( what an ego!!). I guess all British must be so proud of the way it was organised and rightfully so. The humor interjected in it with Rowan Atkinson ( Mr Bean) & Daniel Craig as the Queen's official bodyguard for her Opening Ceremony appearance was hilarious! Hope you guys enjoyed it too.
Back in Singapore, as the weather heads to greater humidity again, I have decided to highlight more summer pairings for you to play with Summer's fav colours of Mint Green & Striking Pink.

Are you one of those who have been following Summer 2012 trends closely but have yet to try working with the latest NEON colours to add to your wardrobe??? Then have no fear, cos here are some easy ways for you to mix and match neon trends to your Summer Wardrobe on a smaller budget and also done pretty subtly, not that you end up looking too OTT ( Over The Top)!
With Foster Bay's recent launch " Summer Fusion"- I managed to pick up a couple of neon coloured satchel bags which is the IN bag for summer and in the latest neon colours to spice up your outfits.

Below, I have tried mix and matching with neon belts ( though yet to purchase a neon hued pair of heels) to further add this colour trend to my Summer collection. Also presenting 2 different ways to wear the neon satchel.

So what rules of thumb do we follow this trend with, so that we do not end up looking like we are still stuck in the 1980s?
1) Keep it simple and limit up to a maximum of 2 neon colours in an outfit.
2) Try and mix your neon with muted tone items to break up the colour. For those of you who are more daring, you could try mixing a stronger colour e.g royal blue with neon yellow/ pink bag or belt.
3) Personally, I would not go as far as mixing neon colours to my makeup palette, but perhaps for the younger girls ( teens to early 20s) , they could try venturing with a single neon colour to their eye makeup for the day.
4) Neon accented jewelry are fun to play with! I personally am still looking for a neon yellow choker like necklace to add to my collection. Have fun mix and matching but do keep it to a minimal unless you wanna be known as the " 80s girl".
5) Neon nail colours are sooo cute! Go have fun with those....
Enjoy trending your neon shades soon!
Love,
Simone
