Whistle a Happy Tune : Whistles Dress & Statement Jewels

Hi everyone.

Hope you guys are rocking your week stylishly.I recently discovered the Whistles brand of which their simplistic yet stylish outfits have gotten the better of me. Hence here is  my take on a Whistles dress which doubles up as a stylish office outfit that can take you from work to drinks and dinner. From the weekend to the weekday.

Just throw on a jacket and a scarf or an understated necklace for work. Swap the necklace for statement jewelry, red lips and a clutch and you have a sexy yet elegant outfit for the evening.

I dressed mine with wedges for the weekend out but had to add my touch of " loudness" with my new statement necklace which I love so much for its myriad of colours. You can always wear a hat, longer jacket ( aka Kate Middleton) and boots, and you have got yourself a nice Autumn outfit waiting to rock the town in.

For those of you who are not yet familiar with the Whistles brand - this high street UK brand has got their equation right of combining current trends with the right dose of elegance and sophistication. Even the Duchess of Cambridge ( Kate Middleton) has taken to this popular UK brand and have been seen wearing several of their outfits on various occasions.

Can you believe it - they even have a dress named ideally after me - "Simone Swing Shift Dress"... how apt is that? And in a style that works well for me.

Duke & Duchess of Cambridge Visit to Singapore - showcasing Prabal Gurung

Hi everyone,

The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge are here in Singapore !
Today, 12 September 2012, would be their 2nd day in the Garden City and already the main newspapers in the UK and the rest of the world have highlighted the Duchess's fashion choices for her first trip to the Far East.

So why this choice of dress for her maiden trip to Singapore?
Well, Prabal Gurung was born in Singapore, though raised in Nepal and now based in USA. Hence many have dubbed this a diplomatic, smart and fitting choice of designer outfit to wear for her first State Dinner in Singapore. Furthermore Prabal Gurung's Spring 2012 collection was inspired by Araki's Sensual Flowers series, thereby making it an ideal choice for the Garden City.

Well Gurung was so honoured and elated that he immediately tweeted
“OMG!!! Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton in our spring 12 dress!
So xctd that I just stopped some strangers on the street n showed them the pic of
Kate Middleton in our dress.””

The likes of Hollywood celebrities who are great fans of Gurung are Sarah Jessica Parker, Zoe Saldana, Kate Bosworth, Hailee Steinfeld and Amanda Seyfried to name but a few....
as well as America's First Lady - Michelle Obama.

Given the kind of influence the Duchess has on designers and outfits she wears
this immediately puts Gurung now more prominently on the world map of the
fashion industry and is certainly an Asian designer everyone will be watching closely for 2013.

Gurung had just showed at the New York's Fashion Week for his Spring 2013 collection.
The Look for 2013 is about a futuristic fairytale which is both enchanting
and slightly wicked.

In this collection you will find silk layers under snug jackets with crystal embroidery,
crop pants and silk shorts, contrast waistbands as well as studs, feather or
crystal details for his mix and match pieces and dresses.

Similarly freakish to his Spring 2012 collection where most of the flower motifs when
closely inspected shows them withering, for Spring 2013 dresses,
Gurung uses graphic organza inserts and showcases extraordinary flowers
dripping blood.
The main colour palette is of black, white and with shades of red.

This is certainly a designer I will be following closely and incorporating his styles
into my upcoming collections at Foster Bay.

Time to Recycle Your Looks & Outfits !

Happy Sunday everyone,

I have always admired the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton, to have the guts to recycle her outfits in various ensembles and in various occasions.

For one, she could easily afford to have any outfit she wishes but she chooses to stay humble and live her life like she has always been prior to being a part of the royal family. Most Hollywood celebrities would never dream of recycling their " red carpet" outfits simply because it will be easily recognised by the masses given their high profile pics for these award shows splashed across magazines, tabloid papers and the internet. However,  Kate Middleton who I say is probably the most high profiled "celebrity" that is constantly watched for her fashion sense doesn't fear to have the public notice her mix and matching the same outfits and wearing them again and again ( with subtle variations/ changes made).

Whilst she could easily demand and afford to engage a stylist to put her looks together, but she again chooses the path of staying grounded and styles herself for all of her public events. For this I truly admire her. And it must be said she has done a pretty good job staying grounded with her own style, not letting popular trends or designer brands sway her from the all important agenda of being a " regular person", someone who the public can easily relate to and feel that closeness to the British monarchy. Many of her outfit choices are also affordable brands, with justifiable price tags attached.

Therefore, drawing inspiration from her guts to be seen in outfits/ trends of past season, I recently decided to pull out my 2010 LANVIN for H&M jewelled dress for a friend's wedding. Eventhough it's already been 2 years since this dress has been out there, but I still love it for its understated elegance and for its comfort. To complete my look, I wore it with my jewelled leopard print heels which was also a part of the Lanvin for H&M collection and a ZARA sequin clutch.

Here are some examples of other celebrities wearing this same dress for their " red carpet events".

So who wore this dress better? Ok if you think I did, please leave me a nice comment. If you think the celebrities did a better job... well do tell me why and in what way so  I can try my best to bring you a better look next time !

Happy Sunday,
Simone
