Red, Red Wine :: Embroidered Shirt + Burgundy Cape

My goodness - is it the weekend again already? How quick the clock is ticking.....

Weather is warming up a fair bit here in Hong Kong but the temperature difference between mornings, day and night is so considerable. Therefore a nice outerwear is still required to keep warm during the mornings and evenings and layering seems to be the answer to dressing these days.

I am sure many of you would have picked up on the embroidery trend on jeans, blouses, shirts, bomber jackets ( and the list goes on...) over  Winter and Spring. Flower motifs, birds, insects seem to be the fave pattern and I would blame Gucci for setting this trend.

Nonetheless, many high street fashion stores like Zara, H&M, Topshop have all picked up on this and therefore you will find many of such similar style shirts and blouses being sold in these boutiques. I fell in love with them as you did but, this was a piece I found in a local boutique for US$ 8!!!

The pretty pheonix pattern called out to me and on a lightweight cotton shirt - this was a no brainer of a buy as it was a versatile piece I could easily mix and match from winter to spring to summer to autumn and hopefully continue to trend it next year.

Naturally as my wardrobe hosted a bunch of mix and match items in my fave shade of Burgundy hence, this was the storyboard for putting this look together. From the cape to the handbag to the skirt and to the ankle booties. Just short of my Burgundy hat ( ha ha ha!)

I have told myself this is it... no more Burgundy buys for now. However just like Olive, I bet it won't be long I would chance upon something else in Burgundy ( or Olive for that matter) and end up buying it. Need to get bolder with colour combinations and selections.

I hope you enjoyed this quick and casual post and look out for my recommendations on evening dresses ( the first of such I would be doing) seeing that Awards Season is here!

Berry Fun :: Burgundy Overalls + Berry Accents

Hello December and Happy Weekend to all of you!

As the weather starts to get cooler, and everyone starts getting busy preparing for the festive holidays, I am starting to feel nostalgic. I especially love the smell of Christmas. Strong whiffs of cranberry and spicy apples fill the air when you step into the malls. In the grocery stores, strong scents of nutmeg and cinnamon and mulled wine linger in the air...

So here I am, out and about in the back alleys of Sai Kung in Hong Kong finally getting a chance to explore the quaint shops and took the opportunity to capture couple of pics.

Recently, I tried deviating a little out of my comfort zone in terms of dress styles and started purchasing a few overalls / dungarees. Particularly loved this wine berry / Burgundy number from Bershka.

The coloured backdrop was so captivating which was too good not to be missed and captured digitally!

Was at Zara the other day and these lovely boots was screaming out my name!! I like the mirror touch on the heels and was pleasantly surprised they are such a comfy pair of boots to walk in. Not forgetting, a perfect match to this outfit.

Funny enough, I seem to have many a Burgundy/ Wine coloured accessories in my wardrobe collection. Pulled them all out to complete the look. The hat, the crossbody bag... and kept the accessories little and simple ( as usual!).

Have yourself a great first weekend of December!

Love,
Simone xoxo

Cape Town :: Burgundy Cape + Hat

"Hello from the outside" .... ( ha ha... sorry I just couldn't help it! Just been hearing that Adele song over and over again on most radio stations.)

With just 2 days to go before the Lunar New Year holidays, here is a look one can style for those colder days out visiting friends and family for the celebrations.

As always, Red is the auspicious colour of the new year, but try deviating a little and go for a richer Burgundy tone to your outfit. Always wanted to style capes, so this was a perfect item I found recently and matched it with a nice Burgundy hat to add that finishing touch.

As forecasted here in Hong Kong, it will be a pretty cold 10 degrees for the start of the New Year. My hands are always the first to get real cold and so good old leather gloves came out of the wardrobe to add to the final touches of this outfit. Can you believe it I had these gloves for a good 17 - 17 years now. Amazing and they still are in such good condition.

If you haven't noticed, I do not particularly like looking directly into the camera for most of my blog post but this time it was more unintentional than intentional. There was loud rustling coming from the trees and from higher ground. Hence I was literally searching for the souce of those sounds whilst the camera clicked away. Guess what I found?

Yes... MONKEYS!!! A good omen perhaps? They are probably out hunting for food in this cold weather and was jumping from branches to branches. Coincidentally 2016 is the Year of the Monkey so I hope my rare spotting of these monkeys will bring me good luck!

Having styled this first cape outfit of mine - am loving the way this clothing item falls and the look it creates. If you haven't tried " caping" this would be the best time to trend them. Layering seems to be the best way to deal with the cold weather.

Here are my wishlist for different cape styles for this Winter. " Getting The Look For Less" I decided to head back to my favourite online store - Shein.com to showcase some of their lovely and most affordable capes which you can add to your wardrobe.

These capes are going from 30 - 60% off with prices starting US$ 25 and with 24 hrs shipping this is such a perfect deal!

Camel Removable Fur Hooded Double Breasted Cape  ( US$68.67)

Black Hooded Loose Cape ( US$25.92)

Grey Notch Lapel Cape Coat ( US$ 29.99)

Navy Hooded Double Breasted Pockets Cape ( US$33.48)

Khaki Round Neck Loose Woollen Cape ( US$ 27.90)
Wishing all of you a Happy & Prosperous Year of the Monkey and may you achieve all your dreams and goals this year!

My Favourite Fall Fashion Trends 2014 - Part 1

Hi everyone,

Here's my first instalment post on the A/W 2014 Fashion Trends. I hope to inspire you and help you prepare your wardrobes to head fashionably into Fall 2014. Some of these trends were constantly highlighted in many of the runway shows e.g Paris Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week etc.

In this post, I will highlight some of the key colour trends to follow for Fall/ Winter 2014. Not forgetting, I have included my own Styleboard Colour charts and items you may wish to consider to trend these colours for Autumn/ Winter 2014.

1. Vibrant Hues

We often find Fall/ Winter 2014 outfits in darker shades and gloomier colours, but this year, try going bold and bright with vibrant hues.

2. Navy Blue

Always loved the blue and black theme. You do not have to tone down your whole outfit in the same colour but highlight it with accents of Navy Blue to your outfit to trend this colour for Fall.

3. Burgundy / Maroon

Like in previous years where Oxblood was a popular Fall colour, this darker shade of red is a much preferred colour for this year's " red" trend.

4. Orange

I have always leaned towards burnt orange and mandarin orange in many of my outfit or accessory choices as it brings out the glow in my tan skin.

5. Colour Blocking

Can't decide which colour works for you? Colour blocking certainly helps to add that vibrancy and flow to an outfit especially in Fall / Winter where most clothings are in darker hues.

If you love colour as much as I do, you can also colour block your outfits with trending Fall colours by mixing and matching various items e.g Orange skirt/ Purple blouse/ Red bag, Navy Blue jacket/Orange shirt/ Blackjeans or leather tights, Green dress / Orange shoes / Brown long Knit outerwear etc.

So go have fun with Fall's colour trends and stay tuned for Part 2 of " My Favourite Fall Fashion Trends 2014" for clothing styles to watch for this season.

Love,
Simone
